I've owned a rather nifty little Echostar 808 receiver with 2 CI's and Viaccess embedded for about a month now. I was told that the receiver had Viaccess 1 embedded but Echostar informed me that it could be upgraded to Viaccess 2 over the satellite, which of course I did.
A week later I bought an official smartcard from another dealer which I inserted into the embedded slot. Nothing happened apart from a flashing message saying 'check the smartcard'. I contacted the dealer who sold me the card and informed me that he believed the reciever had killed the smartcard because apparently Echostar 808's before a certain time had unmodified 5v rails and I had seemingly been sold an unmodified box.
I contacted the dealer I purchased the box from and they told me to bring the box in and they'd send it back for repair as it was still under warranty. As it's currently being 'repaired' at the moment I thought I'd see if anyone here was aware of problems like this happening with receivers? Also both the dealer who sold me the Echostar and the one who sold me the card have offered to replace it for £20-£25. Should I really pay this if the box did kill the smartcard, I think I should ask the digibox dealer to give me a new card because they sold me a faulty product - I mean what's the point of an embedded cam if it kills cards it's supposed to be able to decode!!?
